On day 2 in New Zealand, we flew from Rotorua on the North Island down to Christchurch on the South Island.
We rented another SUV and started our big circle around the South Island. We first headed northwest towards
Arthur's Pass, one of the main passes across the Southern Alps. We stopped at Bealy's Crossing and stayed
at a bar with about 12 nice cabins. The views of the mountains were beautiful and this was when we first felt th cold
weather.
We started day three by driving a few miles to the village of Arthur's Pass and taking several hikes. The
first was to the Devil's Punchbowl, a very tall waterfall that was not such any easy hike. More beautiful
scenery! We were not here during tourist season, so we mainly had the trails to ourselves.
