On the long drive from Te Anau to Lake Tekapo, we needed to stop somewhere so Kendra could get out of
the car. Jane McEwan recommended stopping in Queenstown at the Deer Park. This was the best
entertainment for the money on our whole trip. At $20 for our car, we spent several hours driving around
looking at and feeding the wildlife. We saw sheep, goats, alpacas, red deer, miniature horses, highland
cattle, bison and yaks.
The view of Queenstown and of Lake Wakatipu was magnificent and we all enjoyed seeing the animals up
close and getting to feed them. I would recommend this short drive from Queenstown to go up to top of this hill.

These are Highland
Cattle that are native to
the hills of Scotland.
They look mean but
seemed pretty timid.
A small herd of bison was
on the other side
of a fence, I guess they
could get rough.
These alpacas seemed pretty
scared of us, they came close but
we could not pet them
These are albino "Black Fallow" Deer according to the information sheet
from the Deer Park. They were very shy.
The rest of the deer shown here are Red Deer. They have been bred
with imported Elk are farmed in New Zealand for export around the world.
Who was chasing who? The big
goats chased Kendra and knocked
her down, but she chased the
small goats all over the mountain
to try and pet some of them

Walt Disney movie called "The
